⁵⁷The Jews then said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old. How can you have seen Abraham?” ⁵⁸Jesus responded,

“Amen, amen, I say to you,
before Abraham was,
I AM.”^[a]

⁵⁹Then they picked up stones to throw at him, but he hid himself and left the temple.
